Wentworth Jones loves his job
JONES...I am a stickler for cleanliness
Career & Education
September 28, 2013

Wentworth Jones loves his job

ASK Wentworth Jones about his work at Jamalco, and his face lights up. The man who operates the front-end loader in the Raw Materials Department genuinely loves what he does.

For over 10 years, Jones has been transporting reject material from the plant to the residue storage area. He is also responsible for maintaining the site at the landfill and he’s absolutely fascinated by the D6 front-end loader which he says helps to keep him in touch with the environment.

“It’s a man’s man kind of tractor,” he laughs. “Whenever I have to work with the tractor I get excited especially if I have a large area to clear. Everything is right at my fingertips, there’s plenty of power, and the visibility is wonderful.”

Before the work begins, Jones creates a mental picture of the end result and that gives him an adrenaline rush.

“I am a stickler for cleanliness so whenever I get a bushy area to clear I look forward to getting the job done. It’s a real beauty to see the area when it’s done. It is so clean, one can actually play football on it,” he gushes.

Because of his love for the D6 front-end loader, Jones has extended himself to assist with the grading of the roadways on and off site, mopping up the reclamation area after heavy rainfall, as well as clearing of the refinery’s perimeter fencing — jobs which have saved the company millions of dollars annually.

“Wentworth is extremely dependable. We have never asked Wentworth to de-bush the perimeter fencing and he says no. This is a chore that is outside of his core duties but he is always willing and ready to help and he does an excellent job,” says security officer Anthony Douglas.

Raw Materials Superintendent Debbie-Ann Fagan describes Jones as a consummate worker who is disciplined, reliable and executes each task in a safe manner. She says he is such an exemplary employee that he has won the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

“He is always the first to be recommended by the supervisor whenever there is a job that requires precision and an eye for detail. The good thing about him is that he always executes his duties with a smile and he expects nothing in return.”

Although this is not his first job, Jones credits Jamalco for helping him to own a house, and says his current job is his most rewarding and fulfilling.
