Jamaican found guilty of murder in London after 13-year probe
LONDON — A man has been found guilty of a shooting murder in Brixton, south London, following a 13-year police investigation.
Dialo Hall, 33, was convicted of killing 27-year-old Denis Cowan. It was reported that he shot Cowan in the head several times after an argument in October 2000.
Hall, aged 20 at the time, reportedly fled to Jamaica after initial police investigations identified him as a suspect.
The Voice, a United Kingdom media source, reported that detectives traced him to a remand centre in Jamaica where he was using the name David Millan. Following finger prints confirming his true identity, extradition proceedings began.
Detective chief inspector Lee Watling, of the Trident Gang Crime Command, said: “It has taken 13 years to secure the conviction of this violent man, a man who shot Mr Cowan in the head while he was lying on the ground”.
“It is a perfect example to illustrate that no matter how much time has passed, or how far a suspect is willing to flee, the Met remains committed to finding those responsible for violent crime.”
Another man, who drove the car taking Hall away from the murder scene, was jailed to 20 months in prison in 2004.
Hall will be sentenced at the Old Bailey tomorrow, October 10.
