Celeb Chef Brings A Taste of The South To Jamaica

After the successful debut of its exclusive supper club in June, Savour Jamaica has announced two exciting events set to take place in Kingston and Ocho Rios featuring celebrated TV chef Brad Turner, later this month.

Savour Jamaica’s ‘Due South’ events will take place on Friday, October 25 on the rooftop of the University of Technology’s School of Hospitality and Tourism headquarters in Kingston and on Saturday, October 26 in Ocho Rios at one of The Rock’s most exclusive hotels, Jamaica Inn.

A native of New Orleans, Chef Brad Turner aka The Grill Sergeant shot to stardom after his popular TV show The Grill Sergeant graced TV screens throughout the world and gained further praise following a successful “throwdown” with Bobby Flay. As well as regularly cooking within the legendary surroundings of the Pentagon in Washington, DC, Chef Turner is often seen on one of the US’s more popular TV shows, Fox and Friends.

“I am born, bred, and buttered from New Orleans and my love for people and my passion for food is unfathomable,” Chef Turner told Thursday Life. “Jamaica has given so much to the world and I am delighted to come here to give a little of my traditional New Orleans cuisine back.”

Featuring a unique fine-dining six-course banquet, Due South will boast classical Southern dishes served with great finesse. With Jamaican produce showcased throughout, the evening will give patrons the opportunity to experience familiar foods through a different lens. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception that includes a bespoke cocktail created especially for the event and a selection of delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Savour Jamaica founder April Jackson said she was delighted with the positive feedback to the first event, The Rising Sun, back in June. The event aims to “create a new experience — two new cities, new theme and décor and ultimately, the gastronomic journey we will provide guests.”

Meanwhile, Alicia Bogues, brand manager, CB Chicken, remarked, “We are particularly excited for the Hospitality and Tourism students at UTech to get the opportunity to enhance their talents through this unique intimate dinner experience with a highly acclaimed international chef.”

Bogues added: “Our choice of partners is equally important and we’re proud to join forces with three Jamaican companies. Wray and Nephew has arguably the most comprehensive range of wine and spirits in the country, and in Appleton, the world’s best loved rum.

“We’ll be using CB chicken and their fresh pork line, Copperwood, exclusively throughout. Rainforest Seafoods shares our vision and have the largest selection of premium quality ingredients from the sea.”

A limited number of tickets are available online at savourjamaica.eventbrite.com.

All-inclusive tickets are priced at US$150 and provide guests with hors d’oeuvres and premium alcoholic beverages during the cocktail hour followed by a six-course banquet inclusive of fine wine pairings.
