St Thomas students dominate Global Hand Washing competition
KINGSTON,Jamaica – Two St Thomas students emerged as the winners of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) Global Hand Washing Day poster and song competition.
Akeil Harris from Bath Primary and Junior High School was selected as the winner in the poster competition, while Sidra
Grant from the Port Morant Primary and Junior High School took top honours in the song competition.
Global Hand Washing Day is observed on October 15 and is an initiative of UNICEF.
The competition targeted grade six students in the parishes of St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew and St Thomas.
Twenty one entries were received from 18 schools. Fifteen students entered the poster competition, while six students entered the song competition.
The posters were judged based on clarity, content, creativity, attractiveness and visibility from a distance. The songs were judged on
relevance, content, arrangement, interest garnered by listeners, melody and originality.
The second and third places in the poster competition went to Jean-Pierre Gordon and Shaeem Brooks from the Old
Harbour Bay Primary.
