KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson Friday completed a stunning two days on the Dubai leg of the 2013 FINA Swimming World Cup, copping three medals — two gold and a silver– as she heads to Doha, Qatar, for the fifth leg of the competition starting tomorrow.

Atkinson won her second gold medal on Friday in the 100m Individual Medley in 58.45 ahead of defending World Cup champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary (58.55). Australia’s Emily Seebohm took the bronze medal in 59.23.

“It felt good, I knew after this morning (50m Breastroke) I had to work on my underwater. It’s good to beat Katinka too. She’s showing us what swimmers can do and I’m now considering adding some more events to my programme,” Atkinson said after copping her third medal in Dubai.

Hosszu contested six finals on Friday after completing a similar feat on Thursday, amassing a medal haul of eight for the Dubai leg, putting her at the top of the women’s provisional leaders table for overall ranking with 468 points. Atkinson is ranked third on 135 points while Spain’s Mireia Belmonte is on 169 points for second place.

According to the official FINA website, Atkinson was listed as the best female performer on the Dubai leg of the World Cup for her 100m Breastroke gold medal performance in a time of 1:02.91 on Thursday.

Atkinson took her silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke in 29.38 behind Iuliia Efimova (29.27) and ahead of Germany’s Dorothea Brandt (30.37).

The winner of the eight-leg series, which started in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on August 7 and comes to a close in Beijing, China, on November 14, takes home a US$100,000 cheque.

The FINA Swimming World Cup will now move on to Doha, with competition starting on October 20.
