BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — A career best five-wicket haul from 17- year-old leg break bowler Shaquana Quintyne disrupted an encouraging start by England who plunged to an 11-run defeat against West Indies in the third match of the Women’s Twenty20 International Tri-Series on Friday at Kensington Oval.

Quintyne began her assault by breaking an opening stand that lasted for nearly 10 overs and yielded 69 runs to trigger an avalanche of English wickets as the visitors were restricted to 129 for eight after West Indies posted 140 for six.

The young Barbadian bowler knocked back the stumps of opener Laura Winfield for 36 to end the partnership and finished with five wickets for 16 runs as England lost the momentum, giving up seven wickets for 23 runs in the space of 31 balls.

Charlotte Edwards’ outfit plummeted from a promising 81 for one, to a precarious 89 for six as a rear guard action involving Holly Colvin and Danielle Hazell offered a glimmer of hope with England requiring 17 runs to win in the last over.

However, a brilliant last over from Shanel Daley, which cost just five runs further, contained England as the Caribbean side secured their second win and moved to the top of the table unbeaten on eigh points.

Edwards top-scored with 39 runs.

Earlier, West Indies, sent in by England, were forced to recover from an early stumble after opener Juliana Nero was stumped with the score on 13.

However, Stafanie Taylor played with experience to allow Kyshona Knight and Deandra Dottin in the top order and Stacy-Ann King in the lower order to play flamboyant innings that inspired the Windies total.

Taylor, who survived a chance, top-scored with 40 from 47 balls before she was caught on the long off boundary.

Knight scored 28 from 28 balls, Dottin missed a swing and was stumped for 32 of 19 balls, while King, who hit Danielle Hazell for a four and a six in consecutive balls, was caught in the deep for 24 runs from just 10 balls.

Hazell was the top English bowler with three for 19, including two wickets in consecutive deliveries, while Jenny Gunn picked up two for 24.
