Green Pond crashes party
FIRST-TIME qualifiers Green Pond High of St James are the only newcomers to the semi-finals of the ISSA/LIME Ben Francis Knockout competition after Saturday’s quarter-finals.
Green Pond beat Godfrey Stewart high 2-0 at Jarrett Park and joins defending champions St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS), Paul Bogle High and Manchester High in Wednesday’s third round for a place in Saturday’s finals.
Tomorrow, Green Pond will take on Manchester High in one semi-final, while STETHS and Paul Bogle will meet for the second-straight year in the other.
After beating William Knibb Memorial 4-1 in Wednesday’s first round, the Gregory Daley-coached Green Pond, who are advancing past the first round for the first time ever, eliminated Godfrey Stewart 2-0 with second-half goals from Jerome Haughton and Davaine McKenzie.
STETHS and Manchester High are in the semi-finals for a fourth-straight year after wins over Kemps Hill and Clarendon College respectively.
Top marksman Khesanio Hall scored a hat-trick for STETHS in their 3-0 win over Kemps Hill, who they were beating for the second-straight year in the second round.
At Kirkvine, Manchester High through a first-half goal from Kevaughn Stephens eliminated Clarendon College 1-0, while Paul Bogle beat St Mary Technical 5-3 on penalty kicks after they had played out a 3-3 draw at Highgate — the second-straight year they were beating them at the same venue.
