Jamaica beat Suriname 5-0 and Dominican Republic brushed aside St Kitts & Nevis 5-1 in Group B second-round matches in the Caribbean Football Union Women’s Under-20 Championship at the Anthony Spaulding Sport Complex on Monday to set up a top-of-the-table clash at the venue today.

Following their impressive showing in their 11-0 opening match against St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica were not as convincing against Suriname, but being vastly more experienced, came away with a 5-0 thrashing of the Dutch colony. Kayla Gray chipped in with a three-timer of goals the 32nd, 47th and a thumping 86th minute header to complement her good showing against St Kitts with two goals. The other goalscorers were Oshay Lawes 36th, and second-half substitute, Keona Simmonds 71st.

Despite the victory, Jamaica looked wayward and unsettled and it was not until they took the lead through Lawes that they began to put a few good passes together, but the fluency that was shown in the earlier game by Jamaica was non-existent.

Even the introduction of Shantel Bailey in the second-half failed to lift the spirits of the team to play their exciting brand.

Meanwhile, Shanice Breeveld on the left, skipper Andaya Landveld carrying the attack, Emella Tokromo in midfield and Xaveira Somowidjojo, who formed the Suriname defence together won favourable comments from the partisan Jamaica supporters for their outstanding efforts for the their team.

In the opening game, Yaqueisi Alexandra Nunez Soriano, who was on target in her first game, came up with Dom Rep’s first three-timer with goals in minutes 13, 45 and 65. The other goalscorers were Winibian Judit Peralto Perez and Gabriela Pena Romero. Phoenetia Brown gave the Kittitians their first goal in the tournament from a corner kick in minute 69.
