Dobson, Smith cop Miss and Mr 4-H titles
MONTEGO BAY, St James
Isanae Dobson of St Mary’s Preparatory and St James High School’s Sean Sinclair were crowned Miss and Mr 4H Nyammins and Jammins respectively, at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex on National Heroes’ Day.
In the female category Deirdre -Ann Smith of Montego Bay High finished second, while Jaida Messam, a St James High student, finished in third place. Two Cornwall College students, Renaldo Ramsay and Rushaun Stewart, finished second and third respectively, in the male category.
Isanae also copped two sectional prizes, Most Congenial and Most Intelligent.
On their way to winning the respective crowns, Isanae impressed the judges and patrons alike with her talent piece a poem entitled, ‘Bleaching No Right’; while Sean excited the audience with his original poem, ‘Jamaica a feh mi Country’.
But they both may have put daylight between themselves and the other eight contestants in their eloquent response to their randomly selected questions.
Isanae said being a member of the 4H Club at her school sharpened her leadership skills among other attributes in response to her question.
“The 4H Club at my school has enhanced my personal development in that I have become a more disciplined individual, a better public speaker, more socialising and I have gained entrepreneurial skills,” a graceful Isanae said.
Meanwhile, her male counterpart who was equally articulate, expressed that he would encourage males at his school to become members of the 4H Club, pointing to the benefits of agriculture.
“The reason why I became a member of the 4H Club of my institution is because I am finding a way to lead myself in an institution that could develop my knowledge and widen my vocabulary. And I would encourage other males to join this club by telling them of the correct goals and benefit that agriculture leads to in our society,” Sean argued.
The crowning formed part of the annual family entertainment event which saw a variety of culinary exhibition on display on the grounds of the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre, which was decorated with a plethora of rides and other attractions mainly for the children.
The curtains came down with an entertainment segment highlighted by veteran reggae performer Leroy Sibbles, Voicemail and deejays Kiprich, as well as Montego Bay’s own Mikey Ranks.
