Hydel crush Bright Beginning in JISA netball
DEFENDING champions Hydel defeated Bright Beginning 21-8 as the semi-finals of the 2013 Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association (JISA) Prep Schools Netball competition got underway at the Leila Robinson Courts on Thursday.
The Lorraine Miller-coached Hydel led Bright Beginning’s Prep 10-3 at half-time and then followed the third and fourth quarters with a further 11 goals to score a convincing win.
Meanwhile, last year’s beaten finalist Mavisville Prep had to work hard before getting the better of Vaz Prep 12-10. Vaz led 6-4 at half-time but were outscored by their opponents in the third and fourth quarters.
Many-time champions Quest Prep outscored Portmore Missionary Prep
15-10.
Our Lady of the Angels Prep also got off to a winning start by beating Mona Prep 11-5 after leading 6-2 at the half-time break.
Hydel, Quest, Mavisville and Our Lady of the Angels were winners of their respective zones in the preliminary rounds and unbeaten coming into the semi-final rounds.
Portmore Missionary captured Zone One with 10 points with Portmore Missionary second with eight.
Quest topped Zone Two with 10 points ahead of Mona, who finished with eight.
Mavisville are the winners of Zone Three with eight points with Bright Beginning finishing second on six points.
Champions Hydel came out on top of Zone Four with eight points with former champions Vaz in second place on six points.
The semi-final round has been divided into two groups with the winners set to advance to the final, while the runners-up face each other in a play-off for third and fourth positions, respectively.
The semi-final round of matches will continue on Tuesday at the Leila Robinson Courts, beginning at 1:45 pm.
