Muschett make winning start in school basketball
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Muschett High opened the defence of their ISSA/KFC Western Conference boys’ high school titles with impressive wins over Trelawny neighbours William Knibb Memorial on Friday.
Karlington Barrett scored a double-double to lead the Under-19 team to a comfortable 15 point 77-62 win in the Under-19 game, while the Under-16 team overwhelmed William Knibb 45-16.
Muschett join former champions Cornwall College and Spot Valley High in the lead in both sections, all on two points after winning their opening games.
Cornwall College had beaten Holland High in the opening games on Tuesday, while Spot Valley got the double over St James High on Thursday winning 46-24 in the Under-16 game and 49-35 in the Under-19 game.
On Friday, the home team led all the way and were up 11-5 after the first quarter and 30-17 at half-time. Despite an improved second half from William Knibb, Muschett still led 52-35 going into the fourth quarter.
Barrett had a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds along with two blocked shots; Michael Schloss scored 18 points and had five rebounds, while Djair Bulgin also got into double figures with 14 points and six steals.
Shavaughn Reid scored 20 points for William Knibb, while Alwayne Smith had 14 points and 13 rebounds in a losing cause.
In the Under-16 game, William Knibb failed to get into double figure scoring in any of the four quarters as Muschett led 15-2, 24-4 and 34-12 after the first three quarters.
Damaine Thorpe scored 15 points to lead Muschett while Marlon Schloss supported him with 11 points.
