This is the height of a great man
PATRICK Wright’s mission to single-handedly complete construction of his circular concrete house in Wakefield, St Catherine has drawn admiration and words of encouragement from Jamaica Observer online readers. Fifty-four-year-old Wright — a construction worker — in a story published in yesterday’s Observer, described the seven-bedroom structure as his dream home. The structure is now 75 per cent complete. Here are some edited comments:

Newsflash! People rarely build in circles ’cause you “can’t fit a square peg in a round hole”. The footprint of the human body is squared, furniture is squared. There is a lot of wasted crevices when you try to fit square stuff in round spaces. To accommodate, you have to build much bigger round spaces. Wealthy people can of course afford to… but poor and middle-class people try to conserve their monies seeing that building cost is …what… $7,000 per square feet up… well I dunno…wish him well though.
