Guard shot dead in Trinidad hold up, crooks escape with TT$250,000
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) –Trinidad and Tobago police Wednesday launched a massive search for two gunmen who reportedly stole an estimated quarter million dollars (One Trinidad dollar = US$0.16 cents) from an amoured vehicle, killing one of the employees in the process.
Police said that the Sentinel Security Services van was hit from the back by a car along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, along the east west corridor and when the driver stopped to investigate the bandits fired several shots, hitting one of the guards.
The other managed to escape and the men then fled with the money.
Police have since closed a portion of the highway, causing a major traffic pile up.
