What they say – RENARDO McNAUGHTON

1. When did you start your career as a jockey?

I started my career as a jockey on September 8, 2012, after I completed my training at the Jockeys’ Training School run by the Jamaica Racing Commission.

2. Which horse was your first winner?

My first winner came aboard Jagsover, trained by Anthony Nunes over 1400 metres. I was very happy that day and will always remember the first time that I passed the winning post as a winner.

3. Which horse was your longest odds winner?

My longest odds winner was Alphaletta for trainer Noel Ennevor at 27-1.

4. Which horse is the best horse that you have ridden?

As you know, I am an apprentice and still learning. So as yet I have not been able to ride the ‘big’ horses in training. That being said, the best horse I have ridden is Brilliant Lad.

5. Which is the best horse you have seen at Caymanas Park?

Triple-crown winner Mark My Word (deceased) is the best horse I have seen race at Caymanas Park. He won the Triple Crown and the Superstakes many times. He was as genuine as they come and it was a joy watching him race. Truly a great racehorse, and it was sad to hear of his demise.

6. Who has influenced your career most?

A lot of persons influenced my development which eventually led to my training and becoming an apprentice rider. For me, however, I would definitely say my guardians influenced my career the most, and I am thankful for what they have done.
