CALABAR defeated Swallowfield 3-0 to capture the 2013 Salada/Facey Commodity/Kingston and St Andrew Junior High Schoolboy football title at the Cling Cling Oval, Olympic Way last Friday.

The Devon Anderson-coached Calabar from Central Kingston were winning the title for the first time in three seasons. This is their third year participating in the competition.

Calabar went into the lead in the sixth minute when a torrid right-footer by Andre McKenzie lodged in the upper corner of the goal, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Swallowfield, undaunted, produced a few counter-attacks in search of the equaliser but were thwarted by good defensive work by their opponents.

The second goal for the victors came in the 15th minute through Ajani Hopeton. Reacting to a corner kick, Hopeton used his height at the far post to leap high above the Swallowfield defenders to beat the goalkeeper with a fine header.

Second-half action saw Swallowfield looking more positive in their approach, but all their efforts went in vain as they failed to break down the Calabar defence.

Calabar quickly regained control of the match and made their dominance count with a third by Tyrese Wright, his sixth from eight matches.

Swallowfield tried desperately to get back on even terms with Calabar, but again their industry was not good enough.

In addition to winning the top prize, Calabar also took the Best Dressed Team and Most Disciplined Team awards.

The award for the Leading Goal Scorer and Most Valuable Player in the competition went to Romario Lewis of Melrose Junior High.
