Ater eight years, one son, and countless continent-hopping trips abroad together, English-born music mogul-cum-hotelier wed longtime Jamaican belle, Nordia Witter, in dramatic fashion on Saturday, December 7, atop Trident Hotel’s Infinity Pool in Port Antonio. The couple, whose relationship began after a fortuitous encounter at the now-defunct Christopher’s Jazz Bar, began their journey to the altar after Baker proposed on bended knee at Trident’s beautiful Shiprock Villa on Valentine’s Day this year.

The couple’s big day would culiminate 10 months later, with Witter –stunning in a handmade Karo Koroza-designed corseted gown embellished with Swarovski crystals and pearls — and Baker — ever-so-dapper in a classic Burberry tuxedo — professing their undying love to each other in front of their loved ones and closest friends, framed at the altar by Portland’s powder blue skies, with the azure waters the perfect backdrop.

Guests oohed and aahed (with cell phone cameras clicking away) as the bride walking up the aisle on the arm of her brother Newton Witter, glided past to meet her anxious groom, whose best man, Sincere Thompson wiped beads of perspiration from his forehead.

The ceremony, officiated by Bishop Errol Thompson and coordinated by Geejam Collection’s Shevanuse Harrison, was both brief and beautiful, and made even more scenic by the panoramic vista of the open sea, splashing waves, and distant mountain range. Bridesmaid Racquel Jones performed a dub-styled poem that recounted the couple’s history, from their first meeting through trying times, up until their happy ending.

Once declared man and wife, the newlyweds retired by horse-drawn carriage — with son Che in tow — to the Trident Castle for bridal party and family portraits, before returning to the hotel for the reception at Mike’s Supper Club, gorgeously decorated by Petals & Promises, which also provided décor services for the earlier ceremony.

The Colin Brown menu comprised salmon and vegetable terrine, chicken roulade in cream of coconut rundown, Dom Pérignon, and fresh thyme; pot-roasted tenderloin of beef with creamy mashed white yam. Desserts were almond, cognac and rum sponge with rose-infused cream, raspberry and mango purée, and light lemon and red velvet wedding cake.

Formalities complete, guests moved outdoors to enjoy the musical stylings of American R&B singer Joe (of Don’t Wanna Be A Player music fame), who was flown in to serenade the newly-weds on their special day. The evening culminated with a dazzling night-time fireworks display and an after-party.

Mr and Mrs Jon Baker will celebrate a delayed honeymoon next May with a party on a yacht in New York, for friends who were unable to attend the wedding. After which they are slated for a European respite to London, Paris, Rome and Berlin.
