VERE Technical High School and Kingston College booked their places in the final of the Sports Innovators Group (SIG) Schools’ Invitational Twenty20 tournament after easing past Manchester High and St Jago, respectively, in yesterday’s semi-finals at Chedwin Park.

Manchester High could only manage 111-7 from their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and deciding to take first knock. They found themselves on the back foot early when they lost a wicket in the first over with just one run on the board.

They were 8-2 in the third over before Romario Levy (45) and Caud Witter (32) put on a 72-run partnership to help the home team to a respectable total.

Romario Edwards led the Vere bowling with 2-7, and was supported by Demus McPherson (2-19), and Thavi Spencer (2-29).

In reply, Vere Technical got to their target in just 13.3 overs with eight wickets in hand. They got off to a solid start before losing their first wicket with 29 runs on the board when Rohan Fergurson was caught at slip for eight.

It was then time for the Thavi Spencer show as the youngster blasted his way to 62 runs from 35 balls, hitting a five, two sixes and six fours. Randre Christie then finished it off for Vere as he amassed 33 not out from 34 balls with two boundaries to his name.

Scores: Manchester High (111-7 from 20 overs); Vere Technical High (112-2 from 13.3 overs).

In the first semi-final, Kingston College secured their spot after marching to an easy eight-wicket victory over St Jago High in a low-scoring game.

Batting first, St Jago could only manage 95-9 from 20 overs, after Oshane Wright bagged four wickets for 20 runs from his four overs.

Kingston College then raced to 96-2 from 16.2 overs after Tevin Campbell topscored with 42 with four boundaries to his name. He was supported by Maurice Brown, who had a knock of 38 runs, hitting three boundaries and a six.

Today’s final will take place at the same venue starting at 1:30 pm, after the third-place play-off which bowls off at 9:30 am.
