Training Camp 5K on today Manor Park Plaza
THE third staging of the Training Camp annual 5K road race and walk will commence at 7:00 am today at the Manor Park Plaza, Constant Spring.
Among the competitors who have already registered for the event are defending champions, formerly of The Queens School, Tanice Barnett, who won in a time of 18.31.79 minutes, and 2012 winner Areita Martin from GC Foster, who was back to her winning ways and won at the CB UWI 5K event.
The new ‘King of the Road’ Kirk Brown, winner of the Hugo Chambers JC’s 2013 10K road race, will be also having keen competition from Andrew Gutzmore and Sean Pitter, who was the winner of the inaugural event. Also on board is Andrew Gayle, who was the top runner for the JCF last year.
Categories for the 5K
There are three main categories for the run — Under-20, Over-20 and Over-40 men and women. The overall male and female winners will win tickets to North America on Delta Airlines.
For the very first time, Training Camp introduced a 50 per cent discount on registration for managers and coaches to encourage them to sign up for the 2014 5K road race. This new feature was added to give them an opportunity to walk for the exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Olympian, hurdler Hansel Parchment and principal of the Constant Spring Primary and Junior High School, Mrs Nellie Boxe will be starting the run and walk, respectively.
Participants under 20 years pay $300 per entry, and Over-20, Over-40 and Over-65 pay $1000 per entry.
Teams that include a maximum of 12 persons pay $10,000, while there is a and a special rate of $3,000 for school teams.
Companies/teams/schools may enter more than one team.
