IN this its 30th anniversary year, the dance troupe L’Acadco recognised the work and support of a number of its members and supporters who have contributed to the company over the year.

The event, held at Pollyanna Restaurant and Caterers in St Andrew on Sunday, saw artistic director L’Antoinette Stines lauding close to two dozen persons and companies.

Of the dancer awards, in the category Most Improved Junior Dancer, Simone McFarlane copped for females while Janoi Johnson was the male recipient. Most Improved Core Dancer went to Samantha Daley and Miguel Edmond, Most Consistent Dancer (female) was shared by Jessica Shaw and Trudy Ann Smith. The Most Consistent Dancer (male) went to Oraine Frater, who took home the Alma Mock Yen Award.

The all-male cast of Sinnerman, was also recognised by Stines.

L’Acadco also recognised some of its members with the Lisa O’Gilvie Shining Star Award, named after one of its former dancers. This was presented to Kareen McLean, Trudy Ann Smart, Oraine Frater and Shane Blake.

Long-service awards were also presented to Natalie Corthesey and Patrice Levy.

The Obatala Award for growth and maturity went to Kareen McLean.

Stines’ own daughter Amanye Stines Jones, along with Adrian Wanliss, would take the L’Antech Purple Star Award for spreading the dance technique created by L’Acadco across the globe.

The Ivy Baxter Award for artistic vision was also won by Stines Jones as well as the troupe musical director Kemoy Outar.

Grace Kennedy, Main Event and IRIE Fm were recognised for their support over the year.

While Glynn Manley received the L’Acadco Golden Star Award.
