7 signs you are in the wrong job
FOR many people, it is clear as day that they are in the wrong job. They wake up each day with aspirations of being elsewhere doing something else. Some have resigned themselves to doing their current job until something better comes along, others are deterred by the few job prospects on the market or their financial need, and spend their days in misery.
There are many other persons who are stuck in dead-end jobs, just doing as they are told and going through the motions. In the back of their minds is the idea that this job is not for them and that they should be doing something more with their lives. Does this sound like you? Here a few signs that you are in the wrong job.
1. It’s Sunday evening and your body still wants it to be Friday night
For many persons, Sunday evenings signify the end of the weekend and that the next morning they will have to go back to work. But if you begin to feel ill at the thought of having to go back to work, your body is giving you a sign. Listen to it. Though people generally dislike Monday mornings, the thought of going back to work should not make you physically ill.
2. Is it quitting time yet?
Every day seems to go by very slowly and every minute you are at work seems like the longest minute ever. You are a clock-watcher. A clock-watcher tends to be less productive and is usually the first to take any breaks given or the first to leave the office. You find every excuse to shirk work.
3. You’re jealous of others’ accomplishments
You know it is bad when you are jealous of everyone who has accomplished something that you have not. Everyone seems to be flaunting his or her achievements and you absolutely hate it. You begin to think of yourself in their jobs and living their lives instead of your own. Who wouldn’t be envious of someone who has your dream job?
4. Anxiety and stress follow you all day
This job has you stressed out, hair falling out and always in a bad mood. Your co-workers annoy you and your boss just keeps adding more things to your workload and you absolutely hate it. You get constant headaches, stomach-aches or you pass sleepless nights because you are thinking about how much work you still have to do. Our bodies can tell us a lot of things especially about our mental and physical health. Listen to your body, it won’t lead you astray.
5. You’re not satisfied
At some point in your professional life you will have to stop grumbling about your job and just deal with it. Sure it’s not the career you wanted, but you can’t keep referring to it as a job, not your job, but just a job. This is how you make a living; you should at least be satisfied with it. Are you?
6. When even money has no effect on you…
If your salary has been increased or even doubled for the same position and your feelings about this job remain the same, your body is still giving you all the warning signs. You know deep down that this job is just not what you see yourself doing forever. Sometimes money doesn’t make the situation any better than it already is.
7. Is it the job or the organisation?
When you started working, everyone seemed to be cool and you all got along. But as time went on everyone seemed to confuse and frustrate you. Could this mean that you are in the wrong job or the wrong organisation? When you find it increasingly difficult to relate to your colleagues or the values of the company, it may be time to seek employment elsewhere or maybe in a different field.
