AC Milan claimed victory over Cagliari in dramatic fashion on Sunday as Mario Balotelli and Giampaolo Pazzini netted late on.

Clarence Seedorf’s men trailed at the break after Marco Sau had put Cagliari ahead on the half-hour mark and with just five minutes to go it looked like the struggling Rossoneri would succumb to their eighth league defeat of the season.

However, Milan were level on 86 minutes as Balotelli fired home an unstoppable free-kick past a helpless Vlada Avramov in the Cagliari net.

Striker Pazzini completed the stunning turnaround by the away side in the final minute of normal time, heading home in the six yard box.

The victory was the club’s second straight Serie A win since Clarence Seedorf took charge of the club.

With the Sant’Elia stadium still being rebuilt, only 4,500 fans were able to watch the match, nearly all of them packed behind one goal, creating an unusual atmosphere.

The result was tough on Cagliari, who remain just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, AC’s rivals Inter were held to a goalless draw at home to bottom club Catania.

The Nerazzurri, with new club president Erick Thohir making a rare appearance at the San Siro, dominated possession but created few real chances, further angering their already restless fans who greeted the team bus with jeers outside the ground.

Inter have won only one of their last nine Serie A games, a run which coincidentally began after the Indonesian business tycoon’s consortium completed its takeover of the club in November.

Walter Mazzarri’s side are fifth with 33 points, only one ahead of Parma, Torino and Hellas Verona while Milan climbed to ninth with 28 points.
