Marley’s b’day bash begins tomorrow
HELD under the theme, ’22 years long, 22 years strong’, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash starts tomorrow at MXIII in Negril.
A highlight of the week-long event will be its Icons of Reggae night which takes place Tuesday. Singer-songwriter Bob Andy, his rocksteady contemporary John Holt, producer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and singer Orville Smith of the Time Unlimited group, will be honoured.
Opening night features singers Nature and Droop Lion, who will be backed by the Warrior Love and Gladiators bands, respectively.
Singer Mojo Herb and the ‘Canadian Contingency’ which comprises seven artistes from Canada, are also billed for Saturday.
Rapper Michie Mee, jazz singer Robin Banks and Juno Award-winning singer Elaine Shepherd are ‘members’ of the Canadian party.
First held in 1992, the Bob Marley Birthday Bash is the concept of Clive ‘Kubba’ Pringle, owner of MXIII.
Radio station Rebel Vibez CHRY 105.5 FM from Toronto, Canada will broadcast the week’s activities live.
The Jamaica Tourist Board and Jamaica Observer are co-sponsors of the event.
