GOSPEL artiste Kevin Downswell gave an outstanding performance at Reggae Praise held at the Emancipation Park in St Andrew on Wednesday.

The event, a free concert, is part of Jamaica Reggae Industry Association’s (JaRIA’s) Reggae Wednesday series.

Downswell, who took the stage at 9:30 pm, had everyone on their feet with his spin on Claudelle Clarke’s That’s Enough. During his set, he was briefly joined on stage by Prodigal Son, who had performed prior to him.

The Joy singer reached out to the audience reminding them that regardless of the challenges God would see them through. He then performed I Need Thee and Nah Bow with the audience reciting the chorus “It’s gonna be alright.”

His set included If It’s Not You and You Make Me Stronger.

Defying doctor’s order for rest, Judy Mowatt took the stage and took praise and worship to another level.

There was no letting up as she sang, danced and had the crowd in a singalong with songs including Nothing But The Blood of Jesus, Lord Heal Our Land and More Than An Ordinary Servant.

Mowatt, a former member of Bob Marley’s harmony trio, I Three, urged artistes to be responsible.

“Whatever you send out there is what is happening in the society. Words are powerful. Be careful what you send out as a Christian,” she said, before singing Many Are Called.

Katalyst Band, which launched their first album Open Your Eyes in 2004 at the same venue, enjoyed their relaunch as a group after being absent.

Other gospel acts for the evening included Claudius England, Rondell Positive, Prodigal Son and closing act Stitchie, who gave a command performance.

The concert series continues with Progessions at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew on Wednesday.
