WHAT THEY SAY – ROBERT HALLEDEEN
When did you start your career as a jockey?
I started my career as a jockey in 2009.
Which horse was your first winner?
My first winner came aboard Regal Delight for trainer Steadman Curtis over 1200 metres. That was a wonderful win that I won’t forget.
Which horse was your longest odds winner?
My longest odds winner was the Phillip Elliott-trained Fabulous Connection over 1200 metres at odds of 28-1. I really did enjoy that win, the punters did not give me a chance in the betting, and I knew that once my horse was in front turning for home it wasn’t going to be easy to get back to him.
Which is the best horse that you have ridden?
I have ridden a few talented horses since I am riding at the Park but I would say Nasatol. For a claiming horse, he would run and win races like an allowance horse, always giving his best and he was a fighter as well. Once the races are out of the straight, Nasatol would be hard to beat – he was very determined.
Which is the best horse you have seen race at Caymanas Park?
The mighty A King Is Born is the best horse that I have seen race at Caymanas Park. He was an outstanding horse that could run over any journey. He could sprint, stay and even run well over long races. The way how he won his races were fabulous.
Who has influenced your career the most?
Friends, family, trainers, owners, fans, actually everybody has been there for me in my achievements. When you live in a community that have a lot of horse lovers you will get the encouragement and assistance, especially if you are a jockey. So I give thanks to everyone for their support.
