James Walsh Classic badminton tourney on today
As a community college and tertiary institution, Brown’s Town Community College does indeed recognise the full participation in the planning and co-ordination of community-based sporting activities within the Jamaica Badminton Association (JBA), and therefore will be launching the Island Dairies EZ Sip James Walsh Classics Badminton Tournament at the Noranda Badminton Auditorium today.
The tournament will be held in honour of James Walsh, who has given 38 years of service to the Brown’s Town Community College and who will be retiring in August of this year.
A total of 110 players are registered to take part in the tournament which will be contested in three categories; the open division, the doubles division, and the Under-15.
Among the players who will be participating in the tournament are Taina Daley, the 2013 Under-15 Caribbean Badminton Championships doubles gold medallist and single bronze medal winner; Shezelle McTyson, the 2013 Caribbean Badminton Championships Under-13 Single silver medallist and double gold winner; Shaquille Palmer and Nicardo Reid, the 2013 Caribbean Badminton Championships Under-17 doubles bronze medallists.
The sponsors for the event are, Island Dairies Ltd and the Noranda Jamaica Bauxite Partners Ltd.
