Football legends Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo once again invited an all-star cast of former footballers to take part in their annual Match against Poverty.

Now in its 11th year Zidane and Ronaldo were joined by the likes of Fernando Hierro, Paolo Maldini, Pavel Nedved and Luis Figo.

Taking on Young Boys in Bern, Zidane’s men eventually went on to win 8-6, thanks to a brace from the French World Cup winner.

But in the opening stages it was not one of the superstars that stole the limelight, but former Borussia Dortmund and Switzerland striker Stephane Chapuisat.

The striker, who was captaining a Young Boys team containing Hakan and Murat Yakin, scored a first-half hat-trick, capped by a beautiful chip over Antonios Nikopolidis.

The manager for Zidane’s side, UEFA president Michel Platini, must have given his team a blast of the hairdryer at half time, as he wrung the changes leading to a much-improved performance.

Five-time FIFA women’s World Player of the Year Marta was an influential change, as she laid on an assist for Zidane and then another for Christian Vieri in no time.

Vieri then added his second, before a rush of goals came at both ends – at one point the legends were down 5-3.

But they again picked up their pace and former Bolton attacking midfielder Youri Djorkaeff added a brace – one of which left the Young Boys defence befuddled as he and Zidane played a series of one-touch passes.

Hakan Sukur, briefly of Blackburn Rovers, also scored before Zidane added his second of the night from the penalty spot.

Another former Rovers star, Nuno Gomes, rounded off the scoring as the match ended 8-5 to the legends.

Other big name players included former Arsenal striker Davor Suker, Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso and Liverpool and Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman.
