APPRENTICE Obrien White seems to have a new found glory as he continued his impressive form in the saddle when he rode yet another triple on yesterday’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park.

The young rider, having won three races on Saturday last, picked up where he left off to rule the mid-week holiday card with some explosive riding to move up the ranks and is now in fourth place in the jockeys’ standings.

White, more popularly known to racing fans as ‘Skin teeth’, was in no laughing mood when he came back to the winners’ enclosure after riding his first winner of the day, aboard the Ryan Darby-trained She’s So Special, before returning hours later to guide home the four-year-old maiden Carpe Diem to victory.

White then closed out a very ordinary holiday race meet with some excitement when he produced a late burst on the Carl Anderson-trained Burning Medic to make it six wins in two race meets.

Five-time champion jockey Trevor ‘Slicer’ Simpson was not to be outdone as he showed strong handling and fine riding form, when he guided Traditional Prince to victory in the Ash Wednesday Trophy.

The race was anticipated to be a two-horse clash, as the highly talked about Prince Andrew from the barn of Philip Feanny was expected to be a tough opponent to Traditional Prince, but the six-year-old bay gelding, out of Traditional-Princess Lal by Sir Lal Bahadur, showed supremacy in the end to win by four and a quarter lengths.

The Patrick Lynch-trained horse was sent off as the 6-5 favourite, but found the early pace of Cantare (Georgina Sergeon up) too strong and was well held by Simpson before he exploded in the home stretch and began to run away from rivals at the furlong pole, eventually covering the 1,300 metres distance in a steady time of 1:20.0 minutes, ahead of the fast-finishing Rio Cobre (Holanda Butler up) and Piscean Rocket (Percival Williams), who was third. Prince Andrew under Richard Mitchell was a disappointing sixth.

Jockey Percival Williams rode a double on the day when he partnered Bubbling Angeline and I Believe N Miracle to victory. Patrick Lynch, who also saddled the latter, topped all trainers on the day.
