‘Digicel’s tier 3 data centre critical to logistics hub success’ – Hylton
During a recent tour of Digicel’s Tier III Data Centre, the Honourable Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce said that Information Communication Technology (ICT) would be a critical part of the technology infrastructure needed to make Jamaica’s global logistics hub a success.
Digicel Business said it is looking forward to supporting and facilitating the modern ICT needs of investors who will help to make the logistics hub a success.
“A global logistics hub requires a great deal of connectivity and it must be powered by ICT,” said Jason Corrigan, General Manager of Digicel Business “At Digicel Business, we partner with the global leaders in technology to provide world-class solutions and services that will enable Jamaica to join the ranks of other major logistics hubs across the globe.”
He continued: “This type of project opens the door to other near-shore opportunities that will be beneficial to both Jamaica and its investors. We see this development as one that will undoubtedly create growth opportunities for several sectors like the BPO industry, which we know holds tremendous benefits for the country.”
Hylton noted that “the logistics hub initiative does hold a lot of opportunities for us and we see that when we look at our capabilities”.
“We also talk about the hub being multi-modal and an ICT background is critical to integrating that,” said the commerce minister. “I am very happy with what I’ve seen here today and I have no doubt that Digicel Business’ Tier III Data Centre will play an integral role in the establishment of Jamaica’s Logistics Hub.”
In addition to having a Tier III Data Centre and a comprehensive product portfolio, which includes Cloud and Managed Services, other plans are in the pipeline which will be critical to the logistics hub and which will be announced later.
Ahead of touring the Data Centre, the team also toured Digicel’s state-of-the-art Executive Briefing Centre at its downtown headquarters where Minister Hylton engaged members from the company’s Montego Bay office using its HD videoconferencing solution.
The March 4 tour also included Dr Eric Deans, Chairman of the Logistics & Investment Task Force, other members of the ministry, Barry O’Brien, CEO, Digicel Jamaica; and Ative Ennis, Head of Enterprise Solutions.
