New LIME detection system nabs metal thieves
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Telecommunications Company LIME says that a new theft-detection system, installed to catch people stealing its copper cables, has resulted in the arrest of two men.
The accused men 18-year-old Richard Graham and Daniel Gunter, 20, both of Greenwich Farm in St Andrew, are charged with larceny and malicious destruction of property.
In a release Monday, LIME said that the men were caught by the police allegedly cutting several cables on 3rd Street in Newport West, shortly after 3:00am on Friday, March 7.
The police seized a large quantity of cables the men allegedly cut from a utility pole. The cable cuts affected services to several customers in the vicinity, LIME said.
The men were arrested and taken to the Newport West Police Station where they were charged. Both men are to appear in court on Thursday, March 13.
