Vaz, Bicknell return to court May 13
MEMBER of Parliament Daryl Vaz and businessman Bruce Bicknell are to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on May 13 to answer charges of corruption laid against them.
Both men had their bail extended when they appeared before Resident Magistrate Stephanie Haisley-Jackson yesterday.
Additionally, attorney Nadine Flowers was successful in having Vaz’s bail condition varied to allow him to travel overseas.
The charges against Bicknell and Vaz stemmed from a traffic violation in east Kingston last April.
It is alleged that Bicknell attempted to bribe Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn with $2,000 to avoid being ticketed for speeding.
It is further alleged that Vaz visited the sergeant at the Elletson Road Police Station and promised promotions for the officers who charged Bicknell if they gave him a chance.
Bicknell was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to the said incident, but was acquitted of that charge in February.
