A revelation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) that it is investigating several senior police officers over their alleged roles in extra-judicial killings has been greeted with mixed feelings by Jamaica Observer online readers. Here are some edited comments:

To be honest with you, I would like to see all known murderers wiped from the face of the Earth. If it takes the police to do it, so be it. Think about what type of Jamaica we would have if we could just have 90% of these bastards eliminated. We need to have a “death squad” in Jamaica to get rid of them!

By the way, Jamaica could be cleansed from the bad/wicked people who are in governance of our beloved country by having an Egypt-style revolution.

@liqcocktails: Criminals, civilian and police are all humans, it seems as if we forget this. We must elevate ourselves from this tribal uncivilised thought process. Crime-solving is a difficult task, there is no easy way of solving it but no one is guilty unless proven otherwise. Murder is murder, no matter who got killed. If I, as a civilian, killed a man then I become a murderer. Doesn’t that apply to the police, too? Are you saying that policemen should be exempted from murder?

We all suspect that some of these police are grimy. However, I question a man who wants to make his name at the expense of the only defence between the people and marauding criminals.

It might not be within the scope of the Indecom Commissioner, but any senior police officer who loses his notes in a serious case should be drummed out of the force forthwith and investigated for corruption. If found guilty, he or she should also lose their pension. Unfortunately when a policeman is promoted up the ranks he or she does not lose their “wuthlisness” but only become more crafty at concealing it. Some of these seniors are worse than their juniors and that is why they cannot discipline them.

Nothing is wrong when the police is performing their duty to rid the country of criminals. However, a lot of the killings by the police are questionable and should be investigated thoroughly, and if found guilty should be prosecuted. We cannot have police killing people without a valid reason.

Why? Because the police’s job is not to go around killing people and blaming those killings on civilian gunmen, so that narrow-minded myopic imbeciles can feel secure.

These are some real damming and serious accusation. Hoping that INDECOM has done an indepth and thorough investigation on this and have hard evidence, and not relying on hear say. This is very serious.

If they are known gunmen and the police caught them in their criminal acts and cut them down, the police have nothing to worry about. As long as the police have not killed an innocent person.

Said affair. Some of these guys do go overboard, but they are the ones out there daily with thier lives on the line going after the terrorists.
