Titchfield, Belair, Immaculate win ISSA/Securipro All-Island TT titles

The curtains came down on this year’s ISSA/Securipro Table Tennis competition with the playing of the All-Island finals at St Andrew High School for Girls recently, with Titchfield winning both the boys’ Under-16 and girls’ Under-16 crowns, Belair copping the boys’ Under-19, and Immaculate capturing girls’ Under-19.

In the finals, in which urban and rural champions faced off against each other in all four categories, Belair clipped St Jago 3-2 in boys’ Under-19, Immaculate stopped deCarteret College 3-1 in girls’ Under-19, Titchfield crushed former champions Kingston College 4-1 in boys’ Under-19, and Titcfhield beat former champions Campion 3-1 in girls’ Under-16.

In Under-19, both Belair and Immaculate are winning the crowns for the first time ever, and in Under-16, Titchfield girls were also winning for the first time. Titchfield Under-16 boys have now won three years in a row, with play in this category started by ISSA in 2008, making this the seventh year of competition in the category.

Coaches of winning teams were Patrick Clarke and Peter Kavanaugh for Belair in boys’ Under-19; Carl Lee for Immaculate in girls’ Under-19, and Samuel Lamount for the Titchfield teams in Under-16.

Runners-up coaches were Richard Davidson and Everald Tucker for St Jago in boys’ Under-19; Pawsey Lyn and Omar Wiltshire for deCarteret in girls’ Under-19; Colin McNeish for KC in boys’ Under-16, and Sandra Riettie for Campion in girls’ Under-16.

In individual results in the Belair/St Jago boys’ Under-19 final, Alexander Chin turned back Lorenzo Johnson 3-1, Michael Chen overcame Kyle Gordon 3-1, and Mathieu Duval crushed Matthew Morrison 3-0, for Belair’s victories. Nadre Cephas blew away Timothy McLaren 3-0 and Kyle Gordon stunned Samuel Ricketts 3-2, for St Jago’s triumphs.

In the girls’ Under-19 final, Vanessa Moo Young won two matches for Immaculate against deCarteret. She got by both Anique Cain and identical twin sister Monique Cain by similar 3-1 scores, as Duvania Evans overpowered Jessica Green 3-0, to secure Immaculate’s third win. Monique Cain outplayed Chinelle Miller 3-1 to pull one back for deCarteret.

In the Udner-16 boys final between defending champions Titchfield and KC, Brian McGrowder clipped Anthony Burgess 3-2, Tyreeek Thompson nipped Sadiki Hinds 3-2, Orland Green eased past Ricardo Hall 3-0, and Marcel Holness cruised past Kevin Davey 3-0, for Titchfield’s triumphs. Dennis Daniels surprised Rajni Brown 3-2, to pull one back for KC.

Brittany Murray won two matches for Titchfield in the Under-16 girls’ final against Campion. She outscored Janique Lee 3-1 and won by default from Shaunte Smith. Sheryl Green overwhelmed Isabelle Chin 3-0 for Titchfield’s third win, as Lee overpowered Aliyah Patterson 3-0 to pull one back for Campion.

Presentation of awards was done by Richard Thompson, principal of Titchfield High School and ISSA’s director for Table Tennis. He thanked Securipro Limited, “the Security Professionals”, for coming on board as a sponsor this year, as the sport had been without a sponsor for decades.
