Arsenal in FA Cup final after beating Wigan
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Arsenal reached the FA Cup final Saturday defeating Wigan’s impressive title defence in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium.
Arsenal, dropping out of the Premier League’s top four earlier in the day, won the shootout 4-2 to keep alive its chances taking its first major title in over eight years.
Jordi Gomez put Wigan ahead from the penalty spot in the 63rd but an 82nd-minute goal by Per Mertesacker forced extra time at 1-1.
Wigan was giant killer in last year’s final defeating Manchester City in taking their first FA Cup final.
Hull plays Sheffield United in the second semi-final on Sunday. Arsenal is seeking their 11th hold in the FA Cup.
