Jodi’s Take on… Beirut Mediterranean Cuisine
Over the weekend my husband and I decided to try out the new Mediterranean restaurant in Market Place; he did the ordering and we got takeout.
I unpacked lots of fancy containers, plastic clam shells of all sizes, black Styrofoam lunch boxes. As I opened each container I noticed how small the portions; were however, the presentation of each dish was very appealing.
First up was the soup. Up to now I cannot make out what kind of soup it was. It looked like some sort of creamy porridge; it was so bland and the texture for a soup was weird, indescribably weird.
Off to a bad start, but hopefully the rest of the pretty little containers would have something better in store!
The hummus and labneh were scantily spread on the bottom of the clamshell; one scoop with the pita bread and they were finished; the container was way too big for the ounce of hummus and labneh.
The hummus was more than lackluster; the labneh was maybe the best item in our order but the garlic was way too overpowering.
The beef kibbeh was dry and smaller than most.
The Grape Leaves weren’t bad; thank God, something edible in this meal!
My husband ordered the Beirut Mixed Grills, which he said was OK, and after tasting everything else I really wasn’t interested in another disappointment.
To add insult to injury I found Beirut overpriced: $8,800 for four small tapas and one meal.
Looks like the curse of the Market Place corner store continues. I would neither recommend nor return to Beirut Mediterranean Cuisine.
