WHAT THEY SAY – Donovan Plummer
When did you start your career as a trainer?
I started my career as a trainer in 2009, but I have been involved in racing from a younger age. I was an owner, a breeder and then was an assistance trainer to Sydney Watson before I became a trainer.
Which horse was your first winner?
My first winner was El ridden by Clive Lynch. Lynch rode a perfect race that day and I will never forget that ride. It was a great feeling winning my first race as a trainer.
Which horse was your longest odds winner?
That would be Go To Hell, ridden by Conrod Ellis at odds of 47-1 going 1820 metres. Once Go To Hell has a comfortable lead and can relax he can be difficult to beat and that was exactly what had happen.
Which is the best horse that you have trained?
Lady Foreman is the best horse that I have trained. I claimed her on a $350,000 claiming tag and she won right away in the $450,000 claiming bracket the first time of asking. I have had great success with her and she is consistent, at the moment she is in Overnight Allowance company.
Which is the best horse that you have seen race at Caymanas Track?
Well, there are a whole lot of them. The Viceroy, Legal Light, Menudo and Miracle Man all are wonderful and outstanding horses, the records speak for those horses.
Who has influenced your career the most?
I was in racing form a young age and while growing up in the racing industry everyone has been good to me. But I want to single out trainers Norris Scully and Sydney Watson and also owner Alrick Mignott. They pushed me a lot to do well, their support and encouragement along the way has put me where I am today, a proud trainer and I want to thank them for it.
