Buccaneers begin defence of LIME Cup today at ‘Caymanas’
Reigning three-time champions Appleton Estate Buccaneers will be looking for their fourth consecutive hold as the sixth staging of the LIME Cup Golf Tournament tees off today at the Caymanas golf course.
LIME has also upped its sponsorship of what has become Jamaica’s most prestigious golfing competition by $500,000 to the tune of $3.5 million.
Also, the event will be broadcast by organiser SportsMax and will see over 140 of Jamaica’s top golfers participating.
Kim Lee, LIME’s head of Channel Marketing, Sponsorship and Promotions, said the company is extremely pleased with the growth of the competition since its inception.
“We are very pleased with how the competition has grown over the past five years and it continues to attract some of the island’s best. This investment is important to us because it helps promotes Jamaica as a premier golfing location in the region, while promoting the development of the sport locally.” said Lee during a brief ceremony and Match Play draw held at the SportsMax office in Kingston recently..
Six teams will vie for the coveted trophy with reigning three-time champions Appleton Estate Buccaneers, 2011 winners Advantage Generals, SportsMax MaxPak, LIME Lions, Red Stripe Legends and 2012 champions, The Springs of Constant Spring, with the latter sponsored this year by ATL Motors.
The teams will compete in a round-robin format over five rounds at the Caymanas Golf Club, before taking it to Constant Spring, and will then conclude at Sandals on June 1.
Other sponsors on board the 2014 LIME Cup are General Insurance Company, Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, ATL Motors, First Global Financial Services, the Jamaica Observer and Pure Country.
