Sizzla BLAZES at Conscious party
SIZZLA Kalonji threw down a fiery set in the parking lot of the Regal Theatre Plaza in Cross Roads, St Andrew, last Friday.
He was among the acts in the latest Conscious Reggae Party shows hosted by Veggie Meals On Wheels and Café Africa. Sizzla not only delivered hits like Praise Ye Jah, Guide Over Us and Solid As a Rock.
He took on topical issues such as the Pinnacle land dispute between Rastafarians and the government. “This problem oonu have wid Pinnacle. As the president of Rastafari, mi waan si di title.
The family of Rasta, we lose a lot of stuff because wi fighting for material things. Wi need to come together an’ sort out dem ting deh,” Sizzla declared. Luciano and longtime music associate Mikey General were less militant but just as entertaining.
Mikey General was effective with By The Rivers of Babylon and his originals African Story, Rasta Garden and Ms Taylor Boy while Luciano hit the right notes on One Away Ticket, It’s Me Again Jah, Never Give Up My Pride and Sinners. Other crowd-pleasers were Empress Itilafeyah and Aaron Silk.
The former stirred the audience with Mama Africa and Nyahbinghi Trodding In. Aaron Silk always delivers and Friday was no exception.
He showed his artistry on his late brother Garnet Silk’s It’s Growing, followed by Coming Home, Mama Africa and Redemption.
Papa D, who opened the free event with A Girl Like You and Jah Servant; Keteis, who was wellreceived for her Amharic interpretation of Gabrial Amlak and George Wild with Life, were also in good form.
