Time and Patience take early lead in INSPORTS/Seprod Primary Champs
TIME and Patience with nine points have taken the early lead in the four-day 2013 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Seprod Primary Athletics Championships at the National Stadium, yesterday.
This was after the one final scheduled for yesterday. In joint second place are Rousseau and Red Hills with seven points each, followed by Clan Carthy on six, Dupont on five, defending champions Naggo Head on two, and Holy Family with one point.
The Championships will take a break today to facilitate the popular Teachers’ Day activities, but will resume tomorrow morning through to the final day on Saturday.
Deandra Haye of Time and Patience won the cricket ball throw open for girls with a distance of 49.45 metres from Alexia McLeary of Rousseau (48.21 metres) and Adriana Johnson of Clan Carthy with 47.63 metres.
The top schools held their own in the 4x100m relays in all four classes.
Meanwhile, schools that have qualified for the Class Two boys’ 4×100 metres relay final from the fastest times are Jessie Ripoll (52.6 seconds), Naggo Head (52.8), New Providence (53.3), Southborough (53.6), Angels (53.6), Belmont Park (53.7), St Benedict’s (53.8), and Greater Portmore (53.9 seconds).
Qualifying with the fastest times in the Class Two girls’ 4x100m relay are Greater Portmore (55.0 seconds), St Catherine (55.2), Spanish Town (55.3), Rousseau (55.4), Morant Bay (55.7), Angels (55.8), Waterford (55.9), and New Providence with 55.9 seconds.
Class Three boys’ 4x100m relay qualifiers for the final are Harbour View, Southborough, Black River from St Elizabeth, Greater Portmore, Clan Carthy, Excelsior, St Catherine, and Dupont.
Making it through to the final of the Class Three girls’ 4x100m as the fastest qualifiers were Southborough with 54.9 seconds, which is a new record, breaking the old record of 56.05 seconds set by Portsmouth in 2011.
Others through are Harbour View, St Catherine, Greater Portmore, Rousseau, New Providence, Polly Ground, and Iris Gelly from St Catherine.
The finalist in the Class Four girls’ 4x100m relay who have ran the fastest times are Naggo Head, Greater Portmore, St Richards, New Providence, Black River, St Catherine, Southborough, and Angels.
Through to the Class Four boys’ 4x100m relay with the fastest times are Greater Portmore, Angels, Naggo Head, Portsmouth, Harbour View, Polly Ground, Southborough, and New Providence.
