LAST week Friday’s Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) prize-giving at ATL Automotive’s Audi Terminal on Oxford Road, New Kingston, saw six racers tied in the final points tally in the wake of April’s Carnival of Speed.

The six tied on 32 points are David Summerbell Jr, Andre Anderson, Kyle Gregg, Sebastien Rae, David Bell and Dayne Chuck.

“It’s probably going to be like this for a while, given the new rules,” Monique Gibbs, JRDC communications director, told Auto.

For 2014, drivers no longer score points from every race they compete in, but only in the single class they’ve elected at the start of the season. Drivers get 10 points for every race victory along with two bonus points for pole position. Summerbell Jr dominated Modified Production (MP) Class 4, Anderson MP3, Gregg MP2, Rae Bracket 29, Bell Motorcycle Class B, and Chuck the new Improved Production class.

With things neck and neck, it would take the record-breaking performance of David Summerbell Jr’s TA-1 in lowering the track record during a qualifying session to 1:17:557, an act for which he was duly recognised by the JRDC.

“I have to thank my sponsors and my team for getting an early grip on the new regulations,” Summerbell Jr said while accepting his trophy.

Kevin Archer emerged top racer in Bracket 45N and Maxroy Allen was top B39 driver. B35 honours went to Kirk Diaz, while Kishore Williams was top MP1 for the meet. Jason Campbell was best Motorcycle A rider.

“We were more than happy with the event,” Keith Parkes, marketing executive from title sponsor GB Group through their Texaco brand, added.

The event also saw the the official handing over of the tickets to the winners of the Barbados Top Gear Festival, driver David Summerbell Jr and patron Sydney Adams. The all-expense-paid trip to the festival was made possible by partnership with the Barbados Tourism Authority.
