Shamrock Rovers 0-4 Liverpool
A Liverpool side made up mainly of fringe players rounded off their season with a 4-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in a friendly at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
None of the Reds’ World Cup contingent were involved in the game and while Daniel Agger, Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel travelled with the squad but were not involved.
Of those named in the starting line-up only midfielder Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen had played a significant number of games for the first team this season, although Fabio Borini returned from a season-long loan spell at Sunderland to continue his good form with a goal.
Forward Iago Aspas, whose future at Anfield remains in doubt after an uninspiring debut campaign, opened the scoring after just eight minutes with a smart left-foot finish.
Less than two minutes into the second half Borini netted an impressive curling effort, with defender Martin Kelly capitalising on a deflection to add the third and under-21s striker Jack Dunn rounding off the scoring with six minutes to go.
