Fathers Who Cooked on Mother’s Day
A reprieve from cooking duties was granted last Sunday as scores of intrigued mothers trekked to Ham Stables in St Catherine for the inaugural staging of Fathers Who Cook on Mother’s Day. Noted politicos, restaurateurs, and businessmen donned aprons and got to work around the grill, fireside, stove-side and elsewhere as they whipped up a diverse menu that featured roasted lamb and beef (by John Junor and Paul Robertson), curried pork and seafood chowder (by Christopher Tufton and Saleem Lazarus), roast pork and special barbecued chicken (by Brian Chung, Don Creary, Kamal Bankay and Ian Moore), shrimp kebab, crayfish soup and roast fish (by Howard Hamilton, Leighton McKnight and Andre Hylton), curried goat and chicken (by Trevor Heaven and Evol Lyn Cook), roast yam, breadfruit and saltfish (by Hugh Gentles), and burgers and hot dogs (by Mikael Phillips and Frances Felix).
The well-attended food event — an initiative of the Lodge Portmore, led by Leighton McKnight — also doubled as a fund-raiser for the Clifton Basic School as well as the George Lee Scholarship Fund, which was recently launched to honour the late mayor of Portmore and provide two annual scholarships to needy high school students entering grade 11.
Thursday Life made the guest list for last weekend’s testosterone-fuelled culinary affair and shares scenes.
