Littlemissemmy gets a ‘flying’ start to career
WITHOUT much fanfare the two year season is now underway. This is when racing fans get to see the juveniles in action, to make their assessments and to debate which of the youngsters will become the names of the future and will impact the sport of horse racing.
On Saturday, Lotto Classic Day, eight faced the starter in the Lotto Juvenile Stakes run over four furlongs straight. Somewhat surprisingly the ‘little ones’ gave no trouble to Mr Starter as when it was time for them to load, they did so without any undue stress. When the gates opened Littlemissemmy drawn at two with Dick Cardenas aboard flew out and try as the others did, she was not for catching. Littlemissemmy by Weekend Cruise – Gaye’s Emblem is owned and bred by Hyde Valley Farms which is owned and operated by Parliamentarian Karl Samuda who made one of his rare appearances at the track to lead in his winner who is trained by Anthony Nunes.
Of note is the fact that Littlemissemmy’s sire, Weekend Cruise is by the outstanding American bred A P Indy. Second in the race was Fantasy (Homing Instinct – Sunshine of my Life) with third going to Flashy Mama Mia. The winning time was 24.1 seconds. Early days yet but as is usually the case, these two-year-olds as they grow, develop and perform will continue to serve as the catalyst for racing.
