SSP Forbes appeals conviction
SENIOR Superintendent of Police James Forbes has filed an appeal against his conviction and sentence earlier this month in a case of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The appeal was filed on Tuesday and cites nine grounds, one of which is claiming that the verdict is unfair and not in accordance with the evidence.
The senior cop was convicted on May 9 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and on May 15 fined $800,000 or six months at hard labour.
Forbes was charged following a meeting he facilitated at his Oxford Road Kingston office with businessman Bruce Bicknell and two policemen who had ticketed Bicknell for speeding in 2012.
Bicknell was charged along with Forbes, but freed on a no-case submission at the end of the prosecution’s case earlier this year.
