Three-a-side football tourney kicks off next week
COCA-COLA will partner with the Football Factory to host the first-ever Football Factory Grassroots 3v3 Football Tournament for males and females aged 16 and over.
The competition will be played between June 7 and 8 at the Football Factory at 77 Shortwood Road, starting at 9:00 am each day.
The ‘scrimmage’ tournament will be the first of its kind in the country and details of it were announced at a launch hosted at the Football Factory in Kingston yesterday.
Games will be played on fields with dimensions of approximately 15 yards wide and 20 yards in length with goals approximately three feet high and four feet wide and will be 10 minutes in duration with no breaks.
In the preliminary round, teams will be placed in groups of four. The winner of each group will move on to the next round, which will be the elimination phase.
In the elimination round, only the winners of each game will progress, until a champion is crowned.
Teams will compriseof a minimum of three players and a maximum of four players.
The winning team will take home $400,000, with the runners-up set to take home $100,000 for
their effort.
Speaking at the launch, Coca-Cola’s brand manager Chloe DaCosta said that sponsoring the tournament was never in doubt.
“Football is everyone’s sport in Jamaica as they show the love and passion for it. Coca-Cola has an outgoing commitment to football for over 40 years and we want to be part of this and more, and so I am pleased to announce my company’s commitment in sponsoring this tournament,” said DaCosta.
Meanwhile, Nick Zaidie, managing director at the Football Factory, said that he is very excited about this tournament and thanked all sponsors for coming on board.
“I am very excited as this tournament aims to showcase Jamaica’s football talent by allowing all at the grassroots levels a chance to highlight their skills.
“I thank all sponsors for their support, without them this would not have been possible,” he said.
