Robert Rainford was wrongfully dismissed, Court rules
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Supreme Court Friday morning ruled that Robert Rainford, former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, was wrongfully dismissed.
Justice David Batts who made the ruling said that Rainford now has 14 days to indicate if he would like the letter of dismissal to be heard by the local Privy Council.
Rainford was given marching orders in September 2013 after it was made public that he stood surety for Carlos Hill, who was offered $15 million bail in 2010 following his arrest for fraud, resulting from the collapse of his ponzie scheme.
Rainford obtained an injunction which prevented the filling of the post until the matter was disposed of.
The defendants in the suit are Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, the Public Service Commission and the chief personnel officer in the Office of the Services Commission.
