Parchment, Wilson score wins at 53rd Golden Spike meet
JAMAICAN hurdlers Hansle Parchment and Nickesha Wilson were winners yesterday at the 53rd Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
It was extra special for Parchment, who was celebrating his 23rd birthday, and the Olympic Games bronze medallist clocked 13.18 seconds to beat world leader Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France, who ran 13.28 seconds in the second of two sections.
A second Jamaican World Championships finalist, Andrew Riley, was fourth in the second section in 13.39 seconds, just beaten to the line for third by China’s Wenjun Xie, who was timed in 13.37 seconds.
Wilson ran a season’s best 55.22 seconds to lead a Jamaican one-two with Ristanana Tracey taking second with 55.43 seconds, while former world leader Kemi Adekoya was third in 55.49 seconds.
American sprinter Justin Gatlin highlighted the meet with a world-leading 9.86 seconds to win the men’s 100m ahead of Mike Rodgers (10.08secs) and Kim Collins of St Kitts/Nevis in 10.12 seconds.
Gatlin has the top four times at the top of the IAAF World rankings.
