Usain Bolt’s dad named patron of Kiwanis Club’s 5K Walk
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Wellesley Bolt, father of iconic sprinter Usain Bolt, is the patron for Saturday’s 5K Walk which was launched by the Kiwanis Club’s Division 25 at the Grandiosa Hotel in Montego Bay last week.
The 10 clubs in the division are Albert Town, Anchovy/Cambridge, Hanover/Lucea, Hopewell, Montego Bay, Montego Freeport, Providence, New Falmouth, Westmoreland Capital and Santa Cruz.
All the clubs will walk simultaneously in their respective divisions on Saturday, starting at 6:00am, except members of the clubs in Montego Bay and New Falmouth, who will walk together.
Admission for the walk is $1000 for adults, children, $500 and groups/corporate $800.
According to Lieutenant-Governor of the Kiwanis Club’s Division 25, Ann -Marie Cadogan, each club will identify a needy child or a children’s home to benefit from the proceeds of the walk, which will be held under the theme: “Fathers With Courage.”
She explained that the walk was conceptualised to “tackle the neglect of children by their fathers and to encourage them to be more courageous in fulfilling their children’s lives with hope and a sense of purpose.”
“Mr Wellesley Bolt was contacted to be the patron for this event, he was very elated and accepted our invitation with pride and enthusiasm,” Cadogan added.
