Road Elf goes head first
Deejay Road Elf (formerly known as Terro 3000) has teamed with dancehall duo RDX on the single Head Top.
He spoke to this column about reports that a female fan was injured while dancing to the song.
“Everyone wants to have fun in the dancehall and the artistes love when the women are excited when dancing to their songs, at the same time we want our women to be careful and safe,” he said. “Not everyone can handle every dance move and dancing on your head is a little bit more challenging, so ladies please ‘head top’ responsibly.”
Head Top is produced by Black Sheep. Road Elf is also promoting the singles Impy Skimpy and Tribal Touch.
As Terro 3000 he scored with the songs This is How I Feel and In My Life. Now in his mid-20s, he is a member of the Ballaz team.
Rebel Souljahz march on
Hawaiian reggae group Rebel Souljahz debuts at number six on Billboard’s Reggae Album chart with their third studio effort, Souljahz for Life.
This is also the vocal group’s third entry on the Billboard tally. Their 2008 debut, Nothing to Hide, peaked at number two and spent over 50 weeks on the chart and was named eighth best selling reggae album of that year.
To date, Nothing to Hide has sold over 60,000 copies.
Their second album, Bring Back the Days was released in 2010. It too peaked at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album chart and has sold over 55,000 copies.
Rebel Souljahz consists of Mike Maglinti, Will Su’a, Andrew ‘Bubba’ Hodges and Tunez Moananu. The group formed while its members were in high school.
George Nooks on top
Veteran singer George Nooks has topped the New York City Reggae Chart with the single Here I Am which is on the Total Records label.
Nooks, who had a prolific career in the late 1970s as deejay Prince Mohammed, is known for a string of hits including covers of Hero, Lean on Me and God is Standing By. As Prince Mohammed, he had hits with Bubble we a Bubble, Tribal War and Forty Leg Dread.
In the 1990s, Nooks entered the Billboard R&B Singles chart with the song Real Man which reached number 55.
His last studio album was 2012’s Broken Vessel.
