Netherlands, Costa Rica 0-0, into extra-time
SALVADOR, July 5, 2014 (AFP) – The World Cup quarter-final between the Netherlands and Costa Rica went into extra-time on Saturday, after regulation time ended 0-0.
While the Dutch enjoyed most of the possession Costa Rica, the surprise packages of the tournament, kept them valiantly at bay, with goalkeeper Keylor Nevas pulling off a series of superb saves.
On the one occasion he was beaten Wesley Sneijder’s freekick from the edge of the box ricocheted off the near post.
And in stoppage time, a Costa Rican defender cleared off the goalline, the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar and rebounding out of danger.
