Covert Affairs follows the dual lives and dangerous liaisons of CIA-trainee-turned-operative Annie Walker who works with the Domestic Protection Division (DPD).

She experienced baptism by fire when she was put on field duty without sufficient training. No longer protected by the walls of the DPD, she found herself having to navigate and negotiate her way out of close encounters.

Early in Walker’s career she lived with her sister and posed as an acquisitions employee at the Smithsonian. She now uses the cover of import/export magnate. Walker’s supervisor at the DPD was Joan Campbell. Campbell later succeeded her husband Arthur as director of the National Clandestine Service (D/NCS).

A Colombia-based operative, Calder Michaels replaced Campbell — he eventually helped Walker to fake her death. Walker works closely with CIA Tech ops wiz August ‘Auggie’ Anderson — a blind, former field operative whom she later dated. Covert Affairs is a sanitised interpretation of the CIA’s operations.
